About Squircle

I started my career in Advertising, as an Art Director in several well-known agencies. I learnt about design, typography and art. I mastered Photoshop and Illustrator and worked hard to create beautiful designs and creative ideas for the campaigns I worked for.

But then, I gave a 180º degrees turn and moved to a completely different world. I became a Software Engineer. I had to learn new skills, programming languages and concepts I  knew very little about.

They say our brain is divided into 2 hemispheres and normally one stands out over the other. The left side, is the analytical one. Where logic, thorough analysis and strict methodologies are comfortable. On the other side, the right one, lives creativity, where visual and auditory processes are managed.

Art Direction -> Right brain
Left Brain <- Software Engineer

They tend to represent analytical thinking with a Square. As they have rough edges, clear bounds and limits and a straight line thinking process. Creative thinking on the contrary is represented as a Circle. An infinite side geometric figure without clear bounds and curvy trace.

Combine them both and you have a strange looking figure with great potential, the Squircle.

I created this blog to show how this 2 apparently different worlds have much more in common that you might think. Through stories, anecdotes and different concepts, I will try and explain how both worlds benefit from each other. And how, we should all try to become squircles.
